1/13: Madison

The Giving Tree

I imagine myself as the little boy from "The Giving Tree". My favorite scene is in the end when he boy comes back as an old man and just sits on the stump because the Tree had given everything it can to the boy and the boy shares his last moments with the Tree. My least favorite scene is when the by comes back as an older man asking for wood to build a boat instead of staying with the Tree. I used to see the Tree as my mom and me as the boy. As a child I would play with her and stay with her always, but then when I would get older I would forget about her and I do is take from her until there is noting left. That is until I discovered that I would rather be the Tree going things to people rather than taking from someone. That is why this book meant a lot to me.

Instead of the boy taking everything from the tree throughout the book he should have gave something to the tree every time he took something to show his appreciation for the tree. I think the boy made a lot of mistakes in this book, but the Tree is always giving any and loving him  ways. You can learn many life lessons from this book. In the end they both get what they want happiness and the Tree still wants to give to the boy even though all he wants to do is sit on the stump that she has been reduced too. That is what I ultimately think of this book.

  1. Carson, I love that book and that scene. Remember, though: a post is two full paragraphs, written in about 15 minutes of focused writing. Copying and pasting Madison's post doesn't count toward the length.
